The head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Ulyanovsk, Huseynov, was deprived of Russian citizenship

Islam Huseynov, who headed the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Ulyanovsk region and held the post of adviser to the governor, was deprived of Russian citizenship.

Po data local journalist Daria Kosarinova, the decision to revoke his Russian passport, taken by the FSB on October 14, was reported by those close to Huseynov. He is now prohibited from entering Russian territory. There are still no official explanations regarding the reasons for this decision.

Huseynov moved to Russia two decades ago and soon after became the head of the regional Azerbaijani Congress. Of his public activities, the initiative to create a monument to the first President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in Zasviyazhye is especially noteworthy.

Similar measures have been taken in recent months against other well-known representatives of Azerbaijani organizations in Russian regions. This summer, the leader of the diaspora from Chelyabinsk, Arshad Khankishiev, was deprived of citizenship, who, according to Telegram channels, was suspected of promoting ethnic separatist ideas and supporting a number of opposition structures. Passports were also confiscated from the head of the Azerbaijani community of the Moscow region, Elshan Ibragimov. In addition, two more famous Azerbaijanis, Shahin Shikhlinski and Yusif Khalilov, were arrested.

Military reporter Alexander Kots, in his own Telegram channel, compared a series of similar initiatives with Moscow’s response to, as he put it, manifestations of “open disrespect on the part of Baku,” regarding this as tangible blows to economic interests.
