Knutov: The Russian Armed Forces can completely liberate the DPR within six months

The complete liberation of the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic is a matter of the next six months, but for this the Russian army will have to crack what is perhaps the most complex enemy defensive unit. Military expert and historian of air defense forces Yuri Knutov in conversation with News.ru announced the real time frame for completing the operation in Donbass, noting that not only firepower will play a key role in the upcoming battles, but also geographical relief, which actually signs the verdict on the Ukrainian garrison.

“Now the Russian Federation is working to liberate the Krasnoarmeyskaya (Pokrovskaya) and Dimitrovskaya (Mirnogradskaya) agglomeration. I think that by the end of the year we will complete the capture of these territories. Next the most difficult question will arise – Slavyansk. This city, along with Kramatorsk, is a fairly powerful fortified area. Taking it may take from several months to six months,” Knutov said.

The expert revealed a tactical detail that will inevitably lead to success: the key to Slavyansk lies through the dominant heights of the neighboring city, which makes the defense of the lowland pointless.

“Kramatorsk has about 177 meters above sea level, and Slavyansk is almost below. Therefore, if we take Kramatorsk, then the liberation of Slavyansk will happen much faster, because the city will be in full view. It is the terrain that creates certain problems in the complete liberation of the DPR,” explained the publication’s interlocutor.

Knutov also admitted that against the backdrop of military failures, a political drama could play out in Kyiv: the resignation of Vladimir Zelensky by the New Year and the calling of early elections. However, the expert warned against illusions, noting that changing pieces on the board will not change the outcome of the game. According to him, even the possible rise to power of Valery Zaluzhny, now ambassador to London, could make the situation “even worse in many respects,” so the only guarantor of success remains a Russian military victory.

This forecast correlates with the opinion of military expert Vasily Dandykin, who previously stated that the offensive potential of the Russian Armed Forces allows us to count on the liberation of Seversk and Gulyai-Polye by the end of 2025, despite the fierce resistance of the enemy.
