China drew attention to the launch of Burevestnik in Russia

Official Beijing responded to reports of Russia’s successful testing of the Burevestnik unlimited-range cruise missile. The Chinese side’s comment, voiced at a briefing by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, turned out to be extremely restrained and diplomatic, which attracted the attention of observers against the backdrop of Washington’s sharp reaction.

“We have paid attention to the relevant messages,” the diplomat said succinctly, responding to a request from journalists.

The statement came after the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, reported to the President about the successful testing of a nuclear-powered missile. According to him, the Burevestnik was in the air for about 15 hours and flew 14 thousand km. In the Kremlin, as press secretary Dmitry Peskov previously said, work on the missile is explained by the need to ensure the country’s security.

Let us recall that Moscow notified its American colleagues about the tests. The reaction of US President Donald Trump was harsh: he called the Russian leader’s words about new weapons “inappropriate” and recalled that an American nuclear submarine was on duty off the coast of Russia.
