Old video shows David Harbour and Lily Allens tense dynamic YEARS before split, body language expert reveals

Lily Allen and David Harbour called it quits after four years of marriage last year – however, a body language expert has suggested that there were clues that their relationship was fractured long before they actually split.

A 2023 Architectural Digest video of the couple showing off their New York home has been circulating online since their separation, as some fans have speculated that Harbour seemed ‘visibly frustrated’ with Allen throughout the clip as she gushed over the size of her extensive closet.

Now, body language expert Gamble James has analyzed the seemingly tense interaction in the video exclusively with the Daily Mail.

She believes the couple’s body language hints that there might have been some problems brewing all the way back then.

‘One of the cool things about having a smaller-ish bed area is that you can make your closet – or your wife’s closet – bigger than the bedroom area,’ Harbour said in the clip as the couple stood in Allen’s spacious closet.

‘This is like – I don’t know – you’ve had good closets in the past right?’ he asked his then-wife.

‘Nothing like this,’ Allen chimed in. ‘This is amazing.’

Harbour then bowed, before the Not Fair singer joked that he was acting like ‘he built it,’ when it was actually built by a Brazilian company.

They then moved onto Harbour’s closet, where he immediately commented that it was ‘a bit more of a squeeze.’

According to James, the interaction is an example of ‘banter that can morph from hairline fractures in a relationship to irreparable breaks.’

‘Her body language is predominantly compliant and submissive here while his is dominant and commands the screen,’ the expert pointed out.

‘Although Lily is very much the smart, talented and impeccably styled star here, it’s David camera-hogging on an industrial-strength basis and many of his jokes sound like small digs about their status.’

‘His “Your closet” comes with a wry chuckle and his “Your wife’s closet” a wry smile. He actually claps his hands to cue Lily in then, but only to cue her to express gratitude for the closet, which he accepts with a pantomime bow.

‘He actually asks if she’s had good closets in the past to appear to squeeze praise out of her for (the wardrobe).’

James noted when Allen stepped forward to speak, Harbour ‘mimicked’ her hand gesture and talked over her.

‘The length of time they continue to speak over each other creates an uncomfortable moment, suggesting a power battle,’ she added.

Now, body language expert Judi James has analyzed the interaction in the Architectural Digest video, and she believes their body language hints that there might have been some problems

‘He only quits with a loud, theatrical, closed-eyes sigh of exasperation and instead of moving to stand behind her as she did for him, he sits down on a seat as though giving up.’

The video begins with Harbour opening the door and pretending the camera crew was an old lover.

He jokingly asked: ‘What the hell are you doing here? I have a family now’ while Allen watched on giggling.

The body language expert added of the moment, ‘In this scene, David stands to the front to dominate the camera in close-up, despite the fact that his size compared to Lily’s should mean he makes space to ensure she’s not lost from view.

‘He speaks to the camera as though he knows us and he uses a technique of “assumed allegiance” as though he feels we are his friends and confidants.’

James said that Harbour’s chest was ‘splayed,’ with his arms ‘gapping from his sides to add to his size,’ as he ‘behaved like the star we have switched on to watch and enjoy.’

Meanwhile, she noted that Allen ‘stood small in the background, compliantly waiting for her cue with her hands clasped in front of her torso like a polite member of staff.’

‘David even moves to the middle of the screen, so she is lost from view,’ she said.

When Harbour talks about his then-wife, he refers to her as her full name Lily Allen, which James said sounded ‘unaffectionate and slightly sarcastic’ rather than a ‘romantic or loving nickname instead.’

In December last year, the singer’s marriage to the Stranger Things actor ended after she accused Harbour of having multiple infidelities, including a three-year affair with a younger costume designer.

The fallout following her breakup from Harbour was perhaps alluded to in the explicit lyrics from her recent album West End Girl.

In one song, she sings about discovering a partner had cheated on her by finding messages on his phone.

The star referenced a mistress called Madeline, who is apparently a construct of several people and seemingly lies at the heart of the issue between her and Harbour.

The couple was married for four years; Allen has claimed that the album was a mix of both fact and fantasy.

Earlier in the week, some fans noted the couple’s Brooklyn home tour has ‘aged like milk,’ after the actor began with the joke about the camera crew being an old lover.
