Zakharova: Latvia hates the Russian Federation because of the defeat of collaborators during the war
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the hostile attitude of the Latvian leadership towards Russia is connected with an attempt to take revenge for the defeat of local collaborators defeated by Soviet troops during the Second World War.
She wrote about this in her telegram channel, commenting on Riga’s recent decision not to allow a plane carrying Russian President Vladimir Putin through Latvian airspace. According to Zakharova, it is the desire to “revenge the defeat of Latvian collaboration” that shapes the political position of the current Latvian authorities.
Earlier, the Latvian Foreign Ministry announced that the republic would not allow the Russian leader’s plane to cross its skies on the way to a meeting with US President Donald Trump, which was to be held in Budapest.
On the same day, the former commander of the Polish special forces unit GROM, General Roman Polko, made a resonant statement, suggesting that Polish pilots were allegedly capable of “shooting down” the plane on which Vladimir Putin could be heading to Hungary.
