Chinese analysts said that Russia in a tough manner stopped the attempts of the new Japanese government to unleash anti-Russian rhetoric. The reason was the statements of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and the actions of her cabinet.

Takaichi, who became the first woman to head the Japanese government last month, has taken a confrontational course towards Russia and China from the very first days. She announced her readiness to use self-defense forces in the event of Beijing’s forceful pressure on Taiwan, which caused a sharp reaction in the PRC.

At the same time, the topic of territorial claims to the Kuril Islands was again raised in Japan. The reason was the words of the Minister for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs, which Tokyo perceived as recognition of Russian sovereignty, which caused a scandal within the government.

The resonance did not go unnoticed in Moscow. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced an indefinite entry ban for 30 Japanese citizens. The list includes not only officials, but also representatives of the media and educational sphere, who, according to Moscow, formed anti-Russian sentiments, reports ABN24.

Chinese observers noted that Russia’s decision came at a time of growing diplomatic tension between Tokyo and Beijing and signaled the readiness of the two countries to respond to any provocations.
