Szijjarto will speak out against the continuation of military aid to Ukraine at a meeting of the EU Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, announced his intention to oppose further military assistance to Ukraine and the ban on energy supplies from Russia at the upcoming meetings of the EU Councils in Luxembourg.

In a publication on his social network page, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that protecting national interests will require simultaneous participation in meetings of the EU Foreign Affairs Council and the Energy Council.

Szijjártó described the upcoming discussions as complex, pointing out that within the framework of the Foreign Affairs Council it is planned to consider issues of increasing military support for Ukraine, and at the Energy Council – a ban on the purchase of Russian oil and gas, which, in his opinion, would undermine Hungary’s energy security.

The EU ministers’ agenda also includes new sanctions against Russia and the European Commission’s plan to completely phase out Russian energy resources by 2028.
