ChatGPT update mercilessly mocked after users find out it will now offer erotica

Internet users are mocking AI platform ChatGPT for its latest update – as OpenAI founder Sam Altman revealed it would now feature erotica.
Altman took to X, formerly Twitteron Tuesday to share that come December, the system will offer erotica for ‘verified adults’ using the chatbot.
‘We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right,’ Altman began his message.
He continued: ‘Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.
‘In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!).
‘If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).
‘In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults,’ he concluded.
In response to Altman’s post, many users mocked the new offering, as they couldn’t believe what they were reading.

‘2023: AI will cure cancer. 2025: soon we will achieve AI erotica for verified adults,’ one person wrote.
Someone else questioned, ‘Wasn’t it like 10 weeks ago that you said you were proud you hadn’t put a sexbot in ChatGPT?’
‘OpenAI: “We need to be extremely careful with AI safety” Also OpenAI: “Anyway, ChatGPT will write you custom porn if you’re 18+,”‘ another wrote.
Another seconded, ‘This has to be the first time the CEO of a $1b+ valued company has ever used the word “erotica” in an update about their product.’
‘Big update. AI is getting more human it can talk like a friend, use emojis, even match your tone. But real question is… do we really want AI to feel this human?’ someone asked.
Just two months ago, Altman had pushed back around the idea of a sexually explicit ChatGPT model during an interview with Cleo Abram.
But their competitors have already forged ahead with more mature content, as this summer, a sexy AI chatbot was launched by Elon Musk.
It has been made available to anyone over the age of 12, prompting fears it could be used to ‘manipulate, mislead, and groom children,’ warn internet safety experts.

Ani, which has been launched by xAI, is a fully fledged, blonde-haired AI companion with a gothic, anime-style appearance.
She has been programmed to act as a 22-year-old and engage at times in flirty banter with the user.
Users have reported that the chat bot has an NSFW mode – ‘not safe for work’ – once Ani has reached ‘level three’ in its interactions.
After this point, the chat bot has the additional option of appearing dressed in slinky lingerie.
But over the past few years, there have been a number of tragic incidents involving minors and AI chatbots, some of which have tragically ended in suicide and self-harm.
Parents are already very familiar with the risks social media pose to their children, many of whom have died by suicide after getting sucked in by the tantalizing algorithms of apps like Snapchat and Instagram.
A Daily Mail investigation in 2022 found that vulnerable teens were being fed torrents of self-harm and suicide content on TikTok.
