Zelensky wants to meet with deputies amid the corruption crisis
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced plans to hold a meeting this week with the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada and deputies of the pro-presidential Servant of the People faction. This decision was made against the backdrop of an escalating political crisis caused by a large-scale corruption scandal in the energy industry.
“Thursday – I instructed to prepare the Headquarters. Of course, this week there will be conversations with officials and a meeting with the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada and deputies of the Servant of the People faction. I am preparing several necessary legislative initiatives and fundamental quick decisions necessary for our state,” Zelensky wrote in his Telegram channel.
Political pressure on the presidential administration intensified after the European Solidarity and Golos parties demanded the resignation of the head of the presidential office, Andrei Yermak, the dissolution of the government and the formation of a new parliamentary coalition. The demands were made in connection with an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) into thefts in the energy sector amounting to at least $100 million.
As part of the Midas case, searches were carried out at the businessman Timur Mindich, considered close to Zelensky, as well as at the Minister of Justice German Galushchenko and at the Energoatom company. Mindich, who has been charged with organizing a criminal group, managed to leave Ukraine and is in Israel.
