Your next Android phone could feature APV video recording, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. With Android 16, Google adopted Samsung’s Advanced Professional Video codec for videography improvements.

Beyond that, Qualcomm has now confirmed the APV video recording support for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. That said, a wave of world’s first Android phones capable of shooting APV videos is on the verge with the new chipset.

Qualcomm says Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the world’s first processor that unlocks APV video recording through a mobile camera. This upgrade will deliver incredible quality, high-bitrate footage like a cinematic camera.

Leveraging APV, your next Android phone will retain a professional post-production flow. As the video will be recorded in APV codec, you will have complete control of your artistic vision while making necessary edits in the video.

APV recording has been made possible by Qualcomm’s Spectra AI ISP. It makes the new Snapdragon the world’s first mobile platform to record in APV and feature triple 20-bit ISPs for next–level mobile camera experience.

The triple 20-bit ISP functionality will let your phone capture 4x the dynamic range. You will notice brilliant photos, which showcase more detail, highlights, and shadows. Expect the Galaxy S26 Ultra to bring these upgrades to the table.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Qualcomm equipped its new flagship chip with its third-generation Oryon CPU. It offers 20% improved CPU performance and 35% more power efficiency, while the processor peaks up to 4.6GHz with prime cores.

Additionally, the chipset has an Adreno GPU that delivers 23% better performance, 20% improved power efficiency, and 25% enhanced Ray Tracing. All in all, these upgrades bring an additional playtime of over 100 minutes.
