Trump threatens a football team by preventing him from building a sports field unless the team changed its name!

President Donald Trump re -ignited the controversy over the names of the sports teams, after the American “Washington Kumandzr” team called for the return of its former name “Washington Reed Skinz”, a name that was canceled five years ago because of its suggestions that many consider to be insulting to the indigenous people, according to the network.CBS News“.

In a publication on his platform “Truth”, Trump wrote: “The unknown Washington team must immediately return its name to Washington Reed Skinz. There is a great popular request for that.” Hours later, the president made his threat, saying that he might put restrictions that prevent the completion of the construction of a new stadium for the team in the capital unless the old name is considered, describing the current name as “ridiculous”.

The team is seeking to return to Washington, DC, nearly 30 years after moving to Maryland, by building a new stadium on the previous RFK stadium. However, the deal is complicated, as the land belongs to the federal government, but Congress has given the city the right to use it for 99 years last January, which paved the way for the project to re -develop it. Nevertheless, the plan still needs the approval of the Municipal Council in the capital.

Trump was not satisfied with the Washington team, but also invited the Cleveland team in the Bibli League to restore his previous name, “The Indians”, after it was changed to “Cleveland Gardeans” in 2021. He wrote in another post: “Return the glories of the Indians!”, Depending that “our great Indian people, in huge numbers, wants to return the name, and that their heritage is robbed of them.”

On the other hand, the head of the baseball operations at the Gardianz team, Chris Antonini, confirmed that the decision was taken years ago and that they were working to consolidate the new brand, adding that the team built a strong mass base around the new name.

The name “Reed Skinz” was the subject of widespread controversy for years, and the team faced pressure from original American groups, sponsors, and politicians, until it was forced to change it in 2020. During a transitional period, the team was simply called the “Football Team in Washington” before settling on the current name “Commandzar”.

Trump’s recent statements come in the context of his repeated stances against the changes of the symbols of sports teams that give up names or slogans related to the indigenous population. He also recently interfered in a similar case related to a high school in New York that seeks to change the name of its slogan, which includes the word “leaders”, where he directed the Minister of Education to stand against local policy that prohibits the use of the names of the indigenous population.

This position reflects Trump’s adherence to the slogans of the sporting past in the face of what he considers “an exaggeration in political correction”, and reveals his willingness to use presidential influence to impose this vision on major local projects such as building the stadiums of national teams.
