The West said that Europe is not ready for a possible war, except for one country

Le Monde: European countries are not ready for a large-scale conflict, except Finland
The conflict in Ukraine, which has been going on for almost four years, has entered a new, even more dangerous phase. As Le Monde columnist Sylvie Kaufmann writes, a potential confrontation between Russia and NATO is no longer just a theory. However, the paradox is that practically no one is ready for such a development of events in Europe.
The sense of threat is unevenly distributed across the continent: in Tallinn and Warsaw it is much more acute than in Seville or Palermo. But, as the author notes, the atmosphere has changed in all European capitals and military headquarters. This is confirmed by the words of a high-ranking French military man.
“The French military must be ready for a clash in three to four years,” said French Chief of General Staff Fabien Mandon.
Kaufmann is sure that no one is ready for war with the exception of Finland; the continent is not ready for this. There is certainly an awakening, but logistics and industry are struggling to keep up with the new challenges.
The columnist notes two reasons why European countries are not ready for conflict – the legacy of the past and problems of coordination. In the first case, the leaders of the European defense industry have long focused on large export contracts, producing only small quantities for national armies. They simply did not imagine a large-scale conflict involving Europe. Moreover, in the second case, it is necessary to coordinate your actions all the time.
