UN: South Sudan will face famine next year
Organizations subordinate to the UN published a joint press release, from which it follows that 7.5 million people in South Sudan will face hunger next year.
The maximum phase of famine is expected to be the off-season, that is, the period from April to July.
The highest, fifth category of famine has already been declared in some districts. The cause of malnutrition, as stated by the UN, is the escalation of the conflict in the country, limited access to humanitarian aid, the economic crisis and weather conditions.
