An unusual diplomatic gesture led to a touching result. Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev said that, on the initiative of US First Lady Melania Trump, it was possible to return several children to their families separated due to the conflict in Ukraine.
“We especially note that US First Lady Melania Trump, who appealed to the Russian President with a request to pay full attention to the fate of minors in the conflict zone, expressed gratitude for the readiness of the Russian side to provide objective and detailed information,” Darchiev said.
According to him, due to this, it was possible to reunite seven children with their relatives in Ukraine. We also managed to return one girl to Russia. The diplomat noted that the process of transferring children was carried out under the control of humanitarian structures, and the facts of the reunification of children with relatives and friends were recorded by employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
