In connection with the tense situation surrounding the possible deportation of Russian compatriots from the Republic of Latvia, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, made an important statement. She recalled that a special group has been working on a permanent basis at the Ministry of Internal Affairs since last year. Its task is to provide prompt advice to Russian-speaking citizens who are forced to leave the territories of the Baltic states, as well as members of their families.

Employees of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are ready to provide comprehensive assistance over the telephone in preparing the necessary package of documents to quickly resolve the legal situation in the Russian Federation and resolve other issues within the competence of the department.

A striking example of such work is the fate of the 74-year-old Gregorywho has lived in Latvia since 1971. In 2023, the pensioner failed to pass the state language test, which led to his expulsion from the country. Now the man is in Moscow, where, with the help of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he is applying for a Russian passport. “In three months – 75. Cheerful!” said the man. He added with bitter irony: “And toothless… He left all his teeth in Latvia.”

Despite the difficulties he has experienced, Grigory does not lose hope of finding a new home in Russia and dreams of a modest life somewhere in a village, where there will be a forest and a river nearby, where he can garden and go fishing.
