The first comment from Mohamed Salah after Egypt’s victory over South Africa and reaching the round of 16 (video)

The Egyptian national team, which played with ten players throughout the second half, achieved a difficult victory over its counterpart, the South African national team, as Liverpool player Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the match in the 45th minute from a penalty kick awarded in his favor after he was subjected to a violent challenge inside the penalty area by South African player Khuliso Mudau.

Salah said in television statements after the end of the match: “The atmosphere was crazy. The Moroccan and Egyptian fans were amazing today, and I feel proud when I play in a country like Morocco. Thank you for the wonderful support.”

Salah added: “We played a difficult and strong match against the South African team, which was able to keep the ball for a long time.”

He continued: “We had a good plan for the match and things went well and we maintained our lead during the second half. The most important thing is to achieve victory and get the three points.”

The Egyptian national team raised its score to 6 points at the top of the group, ensuring qualification as the first team to the round of 16, while the South African team, whose score froze at 3 points, comes in second place.

This is Egypt’s first victory over South Africa in the Nations Cup since 1998.
