Thai authorities have urged foreigners not to approach areas near the border with Cambodia

Thai authorities are asking foreign tourists to refrain from traveling to a number of areas in the country’s seven provinces bordering Cambodia. The regions in question are Sisaket, Surin, Buriram, Sakeo, Chanthaburi, Trat and Ubon Ratchathani, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said.

The department noted that security measures have been strengthened in these provinces. There is also a curfew, and in some areas martial law has been introduced. In connection with this, some train and bus routes connecting Bangkok with border areas were changed or cancelled.

Tourists were also advised to avoid the section of Highway 348 from Kaeo Phet Phloi to Chong Thako when traveling to the Non Din Daeng area, famous for its numerous temples and monasteries. In addition, foreigners should stay away from all restricted areas and crossing points along the Thailand-Cambodian border.

Moreover, for security reasons, the Thai authorities closed the Yod Dom and Phanom Dong Rak wildlife sanctuaries, as well as the Khao Phra Wihan (Pha Mo I Daeng) and Ta Phraya national parks.

At the same time, the department emphasizes that most of the kingdom remains safe for travelers. TAT noted that domestic railway, bus, sea and air routes are operating as usual. Tourists continue to receive large and popular cities and resorts such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui, Krabi and others.

It was previously reported that in Myanmar, bandits kidnapped a Russian model and took her to the jungle.
