A funeral director revealed to be the “Night Stalker” serial rapist who plagued Sydney in the early ’90s pleaded guilty to committing multiple sexual assaults on women.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Glenn Gary Cameron, 61, admitted to carrying out the attacks, which took place between 1991 and 1993, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the Sydney Morning Herald and the BBC.

Cameron, now 61, was convicted on 13 offenses against seven women and one teenager, which took place when he was between the ages of 27 and 29.

The offenses that he pleaded guilty to included 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault using a weapon as a threat, the BBC reported. While he faced a total of 36 charges, nine were withdrawn, while 14 others will be considered during the sentencing hearing, per ABC.

Known as the “Night Stalker” and the “Moore Park Rapist” by the media after his crimes sparked high attention at the time, Cameron’s victims were between the ages of 17 and 45.

Although the rapes went unsolved for decades, authorities were able to make developments in the investigation in 2022 with Cameron becoming a suspect in 2023 after DNA testing found a link between the then-unknown rapist and his daughter, according to ABC.

Police arrested him at Sydney International Airport in February 2024 with his identity being revealed months later.

Cameron appeared at the Downing Centre Local Court via a video link. He is currently being held at Long Bay Prison.

One of his victims also dialed in to listen to the court hearing, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The majority of Cameron’s victims were Asian women, whom he targeted near train stations and often lured away with offers of jobs.

His first attack was against a 25-year-old Japanese national who had been on vacation in Australia in Strathfield in April 1991.

Cameron reportedly approached the woman after she departed from a train at Strathfield station around 8 p.m. He showed her a fake police badge and told her to follow him due to her not having a ticket.

Cameron then led her down a narrow path before raping her at knifepoint.

The Sydney Morning Herald noted that his attacks happened with greater frequency as they went on with a gap of approximately a year between his first and second victims and six months between his second and third.

He was working as a funeral director at the time of his attacks, according to ABC.

Per court records examined by the Sydney Morning Herald, Cameron met his first wife, who moved from Taiwan to Australia, in 1990. The pair shared two children before he “left the family home and never returned,” per the Sydney Morning Herald.

He then met his second wife, who had moved from Thailand to Australia, in 2008. Still currently married, Cameron told police she “turned his life around,” as he credited her for ending his addiction to drugs.

Cameron and his wife lived in Alice Springs, where he worked as a funeral director again before his arrest.

His next court hearing will take place on Oct. 24. He was represented by Mickaela Mate in court, per ABC.

PEOPLE has contacted Mate Lawyers, the NSW Police and the Downing Centre Local Court for comment.
