Single woman who put a marriage application on a billboard reveals whether it helped her find love

Lisa Catalano set the internet ablaze last month after she launched a bold billboard campaign in an effort to find the love of her life after losing faith in dating apps and traditional methods – and now, she’s revealing whether or not she’s finally found ‘the one.’

Catalano, 42, rented out a dozen digital billboards on highway 101 from Santa Clara to San Francisco to take potential suitors to her website, marrylisa.com.

The billboard featured a photo of her face, as well as the website link, which included an application to date her.

At first, she explained, it started off as a joke. Each time she would get frustrated with the dating scene, Catalano would work on refining the site.

She soon realized that advertising herself online in Silicon Valley wasn’t that crazy of an idea, giving visitors an opportunity to apply for themselves or for eligible friends, so she decided to give it a shot.

But what was just a local story soon blew up into national news, and she received all kinds of messages, she explained in a new interview with SFGate.

Some were the real deal, some were quite hateful, and others just some positive words – but in total, Catalano received 3,800 applications and 8,200 messages, she told the outlet.

‘I was really just expecting it to just be local,’ Catalano told the outlet.

‘And that’s what it was for several weeks, before it blew up, essentially. So I’m shocked that it got as big as it did.’

Some of the coverage she received was quite negative, as one commentator called her a ‘crazy b****’ in a Fox News segment. Her personal information was also posted online.

Still, she has been able to persevere, although she said that she is ‘laying low’ for privacy purposes at the moment after closing her application form and removing the contact options on her website.

‘I’m shocked that I’ve actually made it through all of it relatively unfazed. So to speak,’ she told the outlet.

But despite everything, there are some potential, promising suitors for Catalano.

She’s been hard at work, telling SFGate that she reached out to a few potential matches to set up phone calls last week, and arrange some in-person dates.

‘There’s some really great guys in this mix and I’m excited to go on some dates,’ Catalano shared.

However, she’s only contacting a few potential husbands at a time, as she is trying to keep it all under control.

She declined to tell the outlet how much her billboard endeavor cost her, but it looks like she has little qualms about the decision.

‘But really, I keep saying: Can you put a price on love?’ she asked. ‘Can you put a price on trying to find somebody?’

She has also been documenting her experience on TikTok.

On the website, Catalano goes into more detail about her experiences with dating and what led her to such extremes to find a match.

She says she focused on school and her career in her 20s. Now, she is self-employed, making content on the internet and selling vintage clothes.

During her 30s, Catalano was in a long-term relationship which led to an engagement.

Tragically, her terminally-ill fiancé passed away in 2023. After that she was unable to find another partner who was ready to settle down, get married, and have children.

On her website she wrote: ‘The dating apps aren’t going well at all. Lisa feels she’s reached the point where a drastic measure is in order – and that would be starting this website.’

One the site’s homepage her mission is clear: ‘Seeking the right man to start forever with.’

Catalano wants to be married with children in the next two or three years.

Not only does she advertise her eligibility online and on billboards, she even keeps flyers and business cards with her in case she sees an attractive bachelor in public.

As far as her future partner goes, Catalano wants someone between the ages of 35 and 45 who is ready to get married and have kids.

She enjoys an active, healthy lifestyle and hopes to end up with someone who enjoys the same. Lisa wants him to align with her on politics, religion, and values.
