Sean Dyche makes bizarre claim he convinced former Premier League striker to join Burnley at the ISLE OF WIGHT Festival

Sean Dyche revealed that he once attempted to sign Peter Crouch during a musical festival.

The former England international hilariously turned out as a mascot for non-league Farnham Town this weekend, helping the club to a record gate in the process.

But in the summer of 2018, Crouch found his career at an impasse after Stoke City suffered relegation to the Championship.

As he he prepared for his first season in the second tier for more than a decade, Crouch travelled to the iconic Isle of Wight festival alongside his wife Abbey Clancy to watch British rock royalty Kasabian.

Joining him in the audience that day was fellow Kasabian superfan Dyche and the then-Burnley boss saw an opportunity to strengthen his forward line.

‘What a guy. What a professional,’ Dyche said on talkSPO.

‘Coming to Burnley, I famously asked him if he’d join us at the Isle of Wight festival. He said one day he’d consider it.’

The move ultimately came to fruition in the following January window as Crouch joined the Clarets on loan for the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign.

Crouch would go on to make six Premier League appearances off the bench for Burnley without scoring as the club managed to beat the drop.

‘He came out on loan, and I think he enjoyed it,’ Dyche continued.

‘Had a great relationship with him. Still do. Speak to him now and again and see him at the old gig and stuff like that.

‘Big Kasabian fan, massive fan. Yeah, big friends with Serge [Pizzorno, Kasabian guitarist].’

Crouch ultimately opted to retire from football after his brief stint in Lancashire and has since gone on to combine punditry duties with running the That Peter Crouch podcast.

Dyche added that while the towering striker’s personality is what has made him so beloved, fans shouldn’t dismiss the ability Crouch possessed as a footballer.

‘He’s become a character in his own right,’ Dyche added.

‘And he’s one of them whom I marvel at the fact that he’s taken ownership of what he is.

‘You know, if you went back in the day, the robot and all, he wasn’t offended by it. He actually took ownership of it.

‘Loved him for just being authentic. And he certainly is that. You know, whenever I see him, he’s always good fun.

‘He’s got a real dry edge to him, Crouch; he’s a really tough fella. By the way, a very, very good footballer.

‘Incredibly good footballer. Really technical. Brilliant in our camp as well.’
