Safety expert shares vital tips to protecting yourself while taking a rideshare this holiday season

A safety expert has revealed the ways that you can stay protected if you’re taking a rideshare this holiday season – and what you need to keep an eye out for while in the car.

The crucial information was shared by TikTok user @17tagwho goes by Lifestyle with TAG.

According to her profile she has a background in law enforcement, and often shares various safety tips with her 31,000 followers, including how you can prevent a home invasion and stay vigilant in a new neighborhood.

This week, the content creator shared a long list of ways to stay safe when taking a rideshare, something that’s especially popular over the holiday season.

‘If you’re taking a rideshare home by yourself late at night, I’m gonna give you couple tips that I want you to listen to,’ she began in the clip.

The first thing she advised is to make sure that the child safety lock in the car is off the door.

‘The rideshare driver is a stranger, you do not want to be locked in the back of a stranger’s vehicle,’ she explained.

Next, she instructed viewers to always sit behind the passenger seat.

‘Do not sit directly behind the driver if you are alone,’ the TikTok user warned.

‘You want to always make sure you can see the driver, what they’re doing with their hands,’ she continued.

‘You want to make sure you can see their navigation system, always keep the app open in your phone, and you share your location with a family member.’

On the same note, she recommended that you follow along with the app’s navigation to make sure the driver is going the right way and not steering you astray.

‘Make sure, if they’re supposed to make a left, that they’re not making a right,’ she explained. ‘If the driver veers off course, it should raise red flags.’

She also explained that it was important to keep an eye on the app because you need to make sure that the driver did not ‘end’ the ride before you get dropped off at your destination.

If the driver ends the ride, the app can no longer track your location, though it will know the location where the driver pressed ‘stop.’

In the comment section of her video, many viewers thanked her for the important tips.

‘Female riders and drivers can now select their preference to be a female riders and drivers only. This is a great new feature on both Uber and Lyft,’ someone else suggested.

But thankfully, these weren’t the only tips that the TikToker circulated to her followers this holiday season.

In another clip posted this weekshe revealed that criminals often have schedules for when they strike.

She said that robbers and carjackers usually come out at night, while burglars are most active midday.

‘Burglars will hit the streets at about 10 am to 1 pm, they wanna make sure you’re at work, kids are at school, so they can get into your house,’ she claimed.

The content creator also warned that they will come to your business on the weekend, primarily when the shops are closed.

‘They do have a schedule,’ she said.
