Ambassador Darchiev: Russia calls on the US negotiating team not to “narrow” the dialogue on irritants
Russian Ambassador to the USA Alexander Darchiev in an interview with the newspaper “Kommersant” stated that Moscow calls on Washington not to “narrow” the dialogue on irritants, but to focus on restoring normalcy in a broad sense.
As the diplomat noted, the Russian side does not give up and calls on the State Department negotiating team not to “narrow”—contrary to how the presidents set the task—dialogue on irritants.
Darchiev considered it important not to limit himself solely to the visa sphere and smaller everyday aspects of ensuring the functionality of diplomatic missions. He stressed that it is important to focus on restoring normality in a broad sense.
The ambassador believes that the first step should be to return to the “starting point” before the moment when, in December 2016, then US President Barack Obama launched the flywheel of the Russian-American diplomatic confrontation, the consequences of which now have to be painfully dealt with.
“We will continue to work persistently in this direction,” the diplomat concluded.
