Expert Shapovalov: the likelihood of Europe being excluded from negotiations on Ukraine is quite high

Political scientist Vladimir Shapovalov in conversation with “Lentoy.ru” assessed the likelihood of Europe being excluded from negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

As the publication’s interlocutor noted, the United States will strive to do this. The political scientist drew attention to the fact that until recently, the Americans managed, through certain consultations with European leaders, not to include Europe in a full-fledged negotiation process.

According to Shapovalov, the key element of the negotiation process is negotiations with Russia. He emphasized that in this sense, there has not yet been a trilateral format with the participation of the United States, Russia and Europe, and, most likely, this will not happen.

The expert considered the likelihood of Europeans being excluded from the negotiation process to be quite high due to the fact that Russia does not want European participation in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The publication’s interlocutor added that if the United States manages to push Europe away from the Ukrainian settlement, this will be a serious military-political and diplomatic defeat, which will finally demonstrate the weakness of the position of the European Union (EU).
