One UI 8.5 teardown reveals smart privacy feature for Galaxy S26 Ultra

Samsung is working on a new feature called Private Display or Privacy Display, and it might launch with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. This feature has been spotted in a leaked version of Samsung’s next software, One UI 8.5.
In the leaked One UI 8.5 build, AssembleDebug (via Android Authority) found code that talks about a feature that hides your screen from people sitting next to you. This feature helps you keep your screen private when you are using your phone in a crowded place.
Private Display feature is designed to protect your screen from people around you. It does this by making the screen harder to see from side angles, which is useful when you’re using your phone in public.
The code also shows that this feature may turn on automatically when you open certain apps, like banking, messaging, or payment apps, especially if you’re in a public place. You may also be able to manually choose which apps activate this feature and even set a schedule for when it should work.

Private Display will likely work using Samsung’s new screen technology called Flex Magic Pixel. This special tech uses AI to control how the screen looks from different angles. So when this feature is on, people next to you will only see a dim or unclear screen, while you can still see it clearly from the front.
Aside from this, you may be able to choose different level settings of privacy, Maximum Privacy, and Manual Settings.
- Maximum Privacy: It makes your screen dimmer for more protection
- Manual Settings: It lets you control when and how the feature works.
Private Display is great for people who care about privacy and security, as it will help protect your information from unwanted eyes. Since this feature needs special screen hardware, it may only be available on newer phones, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Samsung’s One UI 8.5 is reportedly debuting with the Galaxy S26 series in January 2026. This new leak shows that the Galaxy S26 series will have upgraded display hardware. Stay tuned for more information.
