One UI 8.5 might intelligently handle Wi-Fi and data swaps so you don’t have to
Samsung seems determined to tackle Wi-Fi frustrations head-on with its upcoming One UI 8.5. A new report says the company is set to introduce a smarter way of handling Wi-Fi and mobile data switching, where AI quietly steps in to keep your connection stable.
As spotted by SammyguruSamsung’s next software release will apparently add two toggles meant to automate switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. The first, called Intelligent Link Assessment, actively monitors your Wi-Fi connection in real time. If it detects that speed or latency is about to tank, it can move you to cellular before things get messy.
The second, Intelligent Network Switch, looks at your habits. If you’ve consistently ditched Wi-Fi in a certain area because it’s unreliable, the system will remember and automatically flip to mobile data the next time you’re there.
Turbo mode for your important stuff
Samsung isn’t stopping at switching logic. One UI 8.5 could also introduce Realtime Data Priority Mode, a tool built into Wi-Fi settings that makes sure high-priority tasks like video calls, live streams, or online matches get the bandwidth they need. As a result, background tasks such as app updates or cloud syncs are pushed aside so your conversation or game stays smooth. However, it appears that the “Secure Wi-Fi” option is missing in current builds, raising questions about whether it’s being reworked or temporarily sidelined.
The update isn’t final yet — test builds are reportedly stable enough to use but still buggy, and features may shift before rollout. Early adoption will likely favor Samsung’s newer flagshipswith older models following later.
If everything goes as planned, One UI 8.5 could finally fix one of the most annoying problems with mobile devices: losing your connection when you need it most. For Galaxy users, that could be a good reason to look forward to the update.
