NFL fans were taken aback by the Chiefs’ practice field in Brazil as Kansas City prepared to face the Chargers in Sao Paulo.

Pictures of the team’s practice site for Thursday show a modest, somewhat bumpy grass field with rugby goalposts and soccer goals pushed to the back.

Curiously, there are also sand volleyball courts next to the practice field, as well as a swimming pool.

And after seeing the Chiefs’ accommodations for their season opener, fans were not happy.

‘That field DOES NOT look even at all. Going to really , really , really , p****ed off is there’s a tweaked ankle (looking at you Hollywood), because of this crap field,’ one wrote on X in response to a post from Kansas City Star columnist Sam McDowell.

‘The NFLPA is somehow okay with this. We know the NFL doesn’t care as long as they make more money…. ,’ another said.

‘This is embarrassing, There’s no reason to be playing games in Brazil,’ a third raged.

And a fourth asked: ‘The NFL couldn’t get a local pro soccer club field for a day?’

In fact, that’s exactly what the Chargers did, as they practiced at Corinthians’ training ground.

That field certainly looked a bit more ready for an NFL franchise, as the turf appeared to be in better shape.

There was also a proper field goal set up.

The game, which will be played at Arena Corinthians, has come with some travel inconveniences, as Travis Kelce revealed his team will have to drive two hours to the stadium on gameday.

‘I know the stadium’s two hours away from the hotel,’ he said on his ‘New Heights’ podcast. ‘That’ll be a unique experience driving to the game game for two hours, the old college football way that we used to drive… we were dealt a hand and we gotta play it.

‘It is what it is. It’ll be rewarding if we go down there and find a way to win knowing that this is such a unique schedule and unique experience. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to go down to Brazil.’

Kelce also noted how the roughly 12-hour flight to Brazil would cause disruptions to his usual pregame preparations.

‘This is the most unique I think it’s been in terms of traveling to a game. It’s not like you’re going to the other side of the world in terms of time zones and stuff, we’re only going two time zones away,’ he said.

‘But we’re traveling half a day. So it’s interesting – typically you would go to London and time it up to where you get in London or you get overseas in Europe and you have a whole day in front of you. So you can sleep on the plane, or you can at least try and get some sleep on the plane.’

Nonetheless, Kelce predicted that the game would be a ‘f***ing blast’ as he and the Chiefs begin their season against their AFC West rivals.

The game kicks off at 8pm ET on Friday.
