New Years celebrations in Sydney will be interrupted by a minutes silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack

New Year’s celebrations in Sydney will be interrupted by a minute’s silence in memory of participants celebrating Hanukkah on Bondi Beach in Sydney, who were victims of a terrorist attack.
Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore said during a briefing for journalists that an hour before midnight the Harbor Bridge would be illuminated in white and spectators would be asked to turn on their phone torches and observe a minute’s silence in memory of the victims.
The minute’s silence, Moore said, “will give people a sense of unity and also show that Sydney is determined to stick together.”
On December 14, in Sydney, attackers opened fire on participants in an event dedicated to the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. According to the police, 16 people, including one of the attackers, were killed and 40 were injured. Two activated improvised explosive devices were recovered from the scene of the attack.
One of the victims, Reuven Morrison, was killed when he stood up to his full height and tried to distract the terrorists from other people.
