At British brand Emilia Wickstead’s A/W25 show models took to the runway swathed in this hot new neutral. Then just last month, the Princess of Wales wore an olive-green tailored Victoria Beckham look for a royal engagement in Oxford. The shade is elegant yet earthy, extremely wearable and makes for an interesting change from standard winter hues. Take it right up to your earlobes with Kate Spade’s gobstopper-sized gold and green earrings and down to your toes with Russell & Bromley’s sleek loafers.
BURNT ORANGE
Warm and inviting, this is the brighter take on brown that we’ve all been waiting for. It is a tone that looks wonderful when textured – see Mango’s terracotta rhinestone-scattered shirt and skirt co-ord, Maksu’s satin paprika pouch bag and Esska’s marmalade-toned velvet platforms. Delicious. Or for a comfortable, casual take, try Lily Silk’s tailored trousers with Jaeger’s spicy orange cashmere cardi. Style this colour either with a similarly warm metallic such as gold, or try clashing it with teal.
STEEL BLUE
This almost-metallic shade is a lovely alternative to white or cream. The dusky, powdery tint works brilliantly with deep statement colours including black, brown, claret red and even olive green. Aligne’s smart two-piece will look good in the office and on to supper. But for everyday wear, I have my eye on Strathberry’s soft, squishy Charlotte bag and Monsoon’s cosy curly fleece coat.
BURGUNDY
Otherwise known as berry, claret or maroon, burgundy is the pared-back version of festive red that’s far easier to wear – especially in the daytime. Currently this is the most popular shade on the high street, so you won’t be pushed for choice. Mulberry-toned leather bags and boots look particularly sophisticated. Deep crimson knitwear and wool coats are similarly elevated. If you don’t fancy colour-blocking it, burgundy also pairs beautifully with steel blue, chocolate brown or pale pink.
