Moskalkova: the flow of requests from Russians from the Baltic countries has increased sharply
The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova, told RIA Novosti that the flow of requests to the Russian Ombudsman’s office from Russians living in the Baltic countries (including Latvia) has increased sharply.
She confirmed that “there are such appeals” (from compatriots from Latvia – they are facing deportation – Ed.). “We know that the flow of requests from citizens living, in particular, in Latvia, has increased sharply,” Moskalkova noted. The Ombudsman said that “there is very close contact” with the migration service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
On October 10, the Latvian Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) informed Politico that 841 Russian citizens living in the country, who fell under the so-called second wave of migration amendments, have not yet begun to formalize their residence status. As a result, all of them were sent notices of the need to leave Latvia by October 13.
