Mohamed Salah raises controversy after he refused to sign the Palestinian national team shirt

A video clip of the Egyptian player Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, sparked a great controversy on social media, as he showed him refusing to sign the Palestinian national team shirt, after the end of the Liverpool match against Galatasaray in the Champions League.

According to the video clip, after the end of the match and during Salah’s exit with his colleagues to the corridor leading to the dressing room, one of the fans appeared waving the shirt of the Palestinian team for Salah, but the latter continued his conversation with a colleague without showing an interaction with the matter, and passed without answering the fan’s request to sign him on the shirt.

Liverpool had received its first loss in the Champions League competitions, by falling in front of its host Galatasaray 0-1. Mohamed Salah sat on the bench alongside Alexander Isak, and entered the field in the 62nd minute, as he replaced Jeremy Frembong in the right wing, yet he was unable to help his team who lost the match.

After the match, Tweeters shared a video, in which one of the people appeared, carrying the shirt of the Palestine team, in front of the players ’dressing lane.

This person asked Mohamed Salah to sign the Palestinian national team shirt, but the Egyptian star ignored his request and passed without paying attention to him.

Reports revealed that Mohamed Salah was unable to sign the Palestinian national team’s shirt due to the obstruction of European Football Association officials, as UEFA laws prohibit this.

Between critics and cannons

According to the website «Al Jazeera Net“This position sparked a storm of comments on the social media platforms that were divided between a critic of the player’s behavior and accused him of neglecting Palestine, and between those who tried to justify his behavior and others who confirmed that he supports Gaza through donations and charity.

In this context, one of the activists criticized Salah for not declaring solidarity with Palestine, stressing that the refusal to sign the Palestinian shirt is a guide of failure, saying: “Salah did not solidarity with Palestine even if in words .. We do not care about what is in your heart, but we are interested in what you show by registering your position and not signing the shirt showing your failure.”

Another considered that the situation could have been simply solved in peace or an apology, and that the signature did not cost anything, and he wrote: “It was possible to greet the young man, apologize and be more convincing .. If he had fallen and endured the fine of UEFA, he would be better for him.”

On the other hand, one of the activists defended Salah as a supporter of Gaza in indirect forms far from the media, and commented: “Salah, despite his calmness, is indirectly supports Gaza through donations and has many charitable works that are not announced because he does not need footage like these to appear in front of people as supporting the case and standing with innocent victims.”

Another saw that Salah was not mistaken, because the young man was not carrying a pen to sign and well -being with a smile, calling for not to rush to accuse him, saying: “The young man was the shirt mask and he did not carry a seduction of signing and goodness smiled at him … What is supposed to do more than that ?? Why do you accuse him without knowing the truth of the situation.”

Some activists went on to defend Salah’s behavior by confirming that it represents a commitment to the laws stipulated in the European Union Football (UEFA) regulations.

According to UEFA regulations, it is forbidden to enter any promotional, commercial, ideological or political materials, including signs, slogans, and flags, unless they are explicitly allowed by the stadium or UEFA authorities.
