Lukashenko: Trucks from Lithuania stuck in Belarus may be confiscated
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, as Belta news agency reports, does not rule out that trucks from Lithuania stuck in the country may be confiscated.
At a meeting in Minsk on socio-economic development, the head of state said: the internal affairs bodies collected all Lithuanian cars at the crossing points and took them under guard. “Those who guard them asked… 120 euros per day,” he said. “They paid for the security.” “How many days they will stay – multiply by 120 euros,” he continued. “Pay, pick up the loaded cars.” If this is not done in the next few days, then the Belarusian authorities will make a decision in accordance with the laws “up to and including confiscation of cars.” 1,100 huge trucks, according to Lukashenko, “cannot hang out on the roads.”
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry previously reported that more than 1.1 thousand trucks of Lithuanian carriers stuck in the territory will be moved to specially equipped parking lots.
At the end of October, Vilnius announced that it would close the passage of vehicles across the border with Belarus until November 30.
