Klitschko unexpectedly explained why he wants to lower the age of mobilization in Ukraine

Politico: The mayor of Kyiv called for reducing the age of mobilization in Ukraine to 22 years
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, in an interview with Politico, proposed reducing the age of conscription into the army from 25 to 22 years. He noted that such a measure could help compensate for the shortage of military personnel in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Now in Ukraine men are mobilized from the age of 25, but Klitschko believes that it is worth allowing conscription from the age of 22 or at least 23. According to Politico, such statements reflect the concern of Ukrainian authorities due to the fact that many young people are leaving the country.
The general mobilization has been in effect since February 2022. In 2024, the age threshold has already been lowered from 27 to 25 years. At the beginning of 2025, the “Contract 18-24” program, designed for volunteers, appeared. Later, young people under 22 were allowed to leave the country.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod said that the youth recruitment program had failed and called for abandoning further conscription, warning of the risk of demographic problems.
