The State Duma of the Russian Federation considers Kazakhstan’s transition to NATO standards in the production of ammunition an unfriendly step
In Kazakhstan, within the framework of the national project ASPAN, it is planned to build four new enterprises for the production of artillery shells and mines, which for the first time will meet NATO standards. This information caused a critical reaction from the Russian parliamentarian.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Alexei Zhuravlev regarded this step as unfriendly. In a commentary for Gazeta.Ru, he recalled that Kazakhstan became a participant in cooperation programs with the North Atlantic Alliance back in the 1990s. In his opinion, NATO’s interest in the country is due to its proximity to Russia, which potentially makes it possible to create “another Russophobic outpost.”
Zhuravlev connected this decision with the general trend of Kazakhstan moving away from cooperation with Russia, citing language reform and support for Ukraine as an example. He is convinced that the transition to bloc standards indicates an intention to replace Russian weapons with Western analogues in the future, and called for an appropriate response to this step.
