Kate Moss in nothing but Le Smoking jacket, Madonna kissing Lourdes and Carla Bruni’s brave face – why Saint Laurent is fashion’s most daring front row

No expense was spared at the Yves Saint Laurent show in Paris last night, which featured the Eiffel Tower as a dramatic backdrop and a show space featuring the YSL logo traced out in banks of white hydrangeas.

Although the real expense was surely hosting the show’s phalanx of celebrity guests.

Making a surprise appearance on the front row was Madonna67, who struck a pose like there was nothing to it in a black leather jacket and black lace pencil skirt, alongside her 28-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon – the pair kissing on the lips for the cameras.

She was joined by Bridget Jones star Renee Zellweger56, looking elegantly low-key in a black trouser suit, the jacket in ‘Le Smoking’ style, one of Saint Laurent’s most famous signatures.

Also in ‘Le Smoking’ was Kate Mossstar of the fashion house’s latest ad campaign, who wore hers more daringly with nothing but black heels and a pair of 15 denier tights.

A longtime muse of the house, Moss, 51 arrived with her friend, the model Frankie Rayder, who wore a brown Aviator jacket over an orange satin evening gown. Model daughter Lila, 23, was also attending.

Judging by some of the guests’ attire, it looks as though orange is the new black. Model Eva Herzig’s52, arrived dressed in an orange pencil skirt worn with a chartreuse satin blouse, while Hailey Bieber28. wore a two-tone orange cagoul teamed with pale yellow lace-trimmed camisole knickers.

Those for whom orange was a zingy shade too far opted instead for yellow, with model Carla Bruni, 57 – seen out for first time since her husband former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years for criminal conspiracy – teaming her mustard yellow chiffon midi dress with a caramel-coloured faux fur coat.

Also in attendance was the newly married singer Charli XCX, 33, a global fashion icon on the back of last year’s ‘Brat summer’

In fact, the front row was something of a supermodel sandwich, with Moss and Herzigova joined by their Nineties contemporaries Linda Evangelista, 60, and Amber Valletta, 51.

Also in attendance was the newly married singer Charli XCX, 33, actress Zoe Kravitz, 35 (without boyfriend Harry Styles), models Charlotte Gainsbourg, 54, and Iris Law, 24, and White Lotus star Walter Goggins, 53, as well as longtime Saint Laurent muse Catherine Deneuve, 81.

If Saint Laurent is competing to be the most Parisian brand at Paris Fashion Week, it’s certainly winning so far, although it’s early days. Leather was very much a focus of the collection, along with a series of trench coats in billowing parachute silk.

Given that the luxury market is experiencing challenging times, the house will be hoping this spring/summer 2026 collection makes sales go hell for leather.
