Japans position on frozen Russian assets became known

Japan will not give up frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine
Japan has officially notified the European Union of the impossibility of using Russian assets frozen on its territory to provide credit funds to Ukraine. This was reported by the European publication Politico, citing two EU diplomats familiar with the progress of the negotiations.
According to their information, the Japanese side has blocked Russian capital worth about $30 billion, but cannot use it for these purposes. As one of the publication’s interlocutors explained, Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama ruled out such a possibility, citing existing legal restrictions.
Thus, the EU proposal faced an additional obstacle related to Japanese legislation, which does not allow the use of seized funds for such financial transactions.
