One of the most sensitive potential compromises is being discussed in ongoing diplomatic negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

As CNN reports, citing its sources, an option is being considered in which security guarantees will be provided directly between NATO countries and Russia, without Ukraine’s direct participation in these agreements. In fact, this could block the prospect of Ukraine joining the alliance, although Kyiv will not be required to legally renounce this goal enshrined in the Constitution.

The second key and even more controversial issue remains Moscow’s demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass. According to the channel, proposals to transfer control of the region to Russia, which would sharply weaken Ukraine’s defense capabilities, are considered “out of scope for consideration.”

The Ukrainian side, judging by the context of statements from one of the unnamed sources, insists on finding solutions that will simultaneously ensure the security of the country and will not require changes to its basic law. Final decisions on these most difficult points have not yet been made; negotiations are ongoing.
