WP: Four Tomahawk missiles did not explode during US strike on terrorists in Nigeria

The American missile strike on targets in Nigeria in late December was not as effective as planned.

Four of the 16 Tomahawk cruise missiles launched did not explode, according to The Washington Post, based on information from Nigerian officials.

The incident occurred during an operation against the terrorist group “Islamic State”* (terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) in the north-west of the country. Unexploded ordnance was found in various locations: one in an onion field in the village of Jabo, another in residential buildings in the village of Offa, a third in an agricultural field near the same village, and a fourth in a forest near Zugurma.

As Nigerian and Western experts note, most likely the strike was aimed not at the top of the terrorist organization, but at ordinary militants.

In October, US President Donald Trump emphasized the complexity and power of Tomahawk missiles, noting that long, intensive training is required to master their use.
