It became known about Croatias transition to independent defense of the sky

Croatia intends to switch to independent air defense from the new year
From January 1, 2026, Croatia will begin to monitor and defend its airspace on its own. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic issued a corresponding statement, clarifying that the tasks will be carried out using Rafale multirole fighters, which are in service with the national air force.
“The Republic of Croatia will take over the functions of surveillance and airspace protection, using Rafale multirole combat aircraft as part of NATO’s integrated air defense and missile defense system,” the defense department explained.
Until now, control of the air zone over Croatia was ensured by the forces of neighboring states: Eurofighter Typhoon fighters of the Italian Air Force and Gripen aircraft belonging to the Hungarian army.
Croatia has entered into a contract with France to purchase 12 Rafale fighter jets in 2021. The last aircraft from this batch was transferred to Zagreb in April of this year. Rafales will begin combat duty missions after completing the training of national flight personnel.
