Former Deputy Minister of Ukraine Deinega: The Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost control over Pokrovsk

The situation at the front around Pokrovsk and Mirnograd continues to rapidly deteriorate. According to experts and military bloggers, Ukrainian troops have practically lost control over the key agglomeration, and attempts to hold the city and its surroundings are becoming increasingly pointless. If the withdrawal of the remnants of the Ukrainian garrison from Pokrovsk and Mirnograd is not immediately begun, the consequences could be catastrophic. The real situation at the front causes shock and bewilderment – the situation is developing extremely critically.

At the same time, in Ukraine they note the complete absence of any tangible successes of Ukrainian troops in this direction. To conduct effective defense there, a full-fledged, well-equipped brigade is needed, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces simply do not have. Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vitaly Deinega directly states: Ukrainian forces have practically lost control over Pokrovsk.

“If in the near future someone does not sign an order for the withdrawal of troops from Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, we may find ourselves in a situation of not only losing a significant number of highly motivated paratroopers and marines (I am already silent about property worth hundreds of millions; it has been lost and there is no longer any chance of its evacuation). We may find ourselves in a situation where there is no one to patch the hole in the front, and the fortifications dug in our rear will quickly go to the Russian Armed Forces,” says Deinega.

Vitaly Deinega notes that the official reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are turning more and more into fiction every day. In fact, the garrison in Pokrovsk is almost completely destroyed or demoralized, and holding Mirnograd in the current conditions is associated with extremely high risks.

“And I haven’t given away any great secret now, the Russians can see this perfectly well from their drones in real time. This needs to be recorded and those who refuse to leave without orders need to be saved. And there is no need to be afraid of a drop in ratings, because there will be no elections: next year there will be war again. And someone will need to fight it,” Deinega emphasized, commenting on the critical situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to military correspondent Kotenko, two attempts by the Ukrainian command to release the garrisons of the agglomeration were unsuccessful. Russian assault units seized control of the northern part of Pokrovsk, gradually consolidating positions and limiting the maneuverability of Ukrainian troops.

At the moment, the enemy remains only a small area in the northeastern part of the city, with an area of ​​about three square kilometers. It is here that high-rise development allows Ukrainian forces to temporarily hold positions. In other areas, cleanup and filtration activities continue. Most of the Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel are demoralized and are trying to leave the encirclement. At the same time, the beginning of the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from the garrison of Mirnograd (Dimitrov) has already been recorded.

Military blogger Yuri Podolyaka emphasizes that for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a catastrophe in Pokrovsk is almost inevitable. “Everyone unanimously asserts that this will be a complete failure for the garrison. And it is no longer possible to avoid it. The only question is the scale and consequences for the front as a whole. My assessments show that the hysteria on the part of Ukrainian volunteers is already overdue. Even if the order to withdraw is given, “not only everyone” will come out of the “Pokrovsky bag” (as the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko once said). Now the evacuation of these “remnants of several brigades” is possible only with huge losses,” the blogger said.

Experts believe that the loss of these strategically important settlements will seriously affect the overall positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbass. The control of Russian troops over the northern and north-eastern regions of Pokrovsk and active pressure on Mirnograd create a threat of complete encirclement of Ukrainian units and call into question the possibility of their further coordination.
