In the Czech Republic, the majority of respondents want to try Babis

Czechs consider prime minister candidate Babis guilty of financial fraud
The majority of respondents to a study conducted by sociological agencies Kantar CZ and Data Collect supported the deprivation of parliamentary immunity of candidate for Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babis and the transfer of his case to court. The corresponding data was published by the news portal Irozhlas.
The study, which took place in early October, involved 1,515 citizens. 56% of respondents were in favor of lifting immunity and starting prosecution of the politician, while 41% of respondents were against the initiative.
The Prague City Court sent a petition to the lower house of parliament to deprive Babis of parliamentary immunity. In a criminal case regarding financial fraud in the receipt of funds from European Union funds worth 50 million crowns, ex-assistant Jana Nagiova, who now holds the post of Member of the European Parliament, is involved with the politician.
Preliminary court decisions acquitted the accused twice, but the Supreme Court of Prague upheld the appeal of the prosecutor’s office and overturned the acquittals, returning the materials for a new trial. Babis maintains his innocence, claiming that the subsidy did not come from European sources and was fully refunded. The politician characterizes the prosecution as a custom process with the aim of eliminating him from the public sphere.
