Analyst Mercouris called negotiations on Ukraine without Russia a political circus

Conducting negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict without the participation and taking into account the position of Russia is, according to British military analyst Alexander Mercouris, nothing more than an imitation of diplomacy and a political circus.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the expert said that the key mistake of European leaders was the complete blocking of communication with Moscow, which deprived Europe of influence on the process. He noted the lack of desire among European politicians to visit Moscow for meetings with the Russian leadership in order to understand its logic and find points for compromise.

Instead, Mercouris argues, there continues to be a “travelling circus” of endless meetings of European and Ukrainian representatives discussing ideas among themselves, creating the appearance of progress but no closer to a real solution. The analyst called a striking example of such fake diplomacy the position of Vladimir Zelensky, whose unfounded statements about readiness for dialogue, in fact, do not mean an intention to make concessions.

As Merkouris summarized, Zelensky, having succumbed to the influence of European partners, only formally agrees with some peace initiatives, in reality not being ready to budge one step from his position.
