There’s a short checklist I mentally tick off before committing to a new series: it needs to have a stacked cast that I can obsess over for a week or so after watching, costumes that make me rethink my entire wardrobe and lavish locations that have me packing my bags. And if it so happens to be set in a different era, that’s even better.

, Netflix’s latest take on the cosy crime genre, has it all. Adapted from the Queen of Crime’s 1929 novel of the same name, the three-part adaptation is written by Broadchurch creator and Christie superfan Chris Chibnall and stars Mia McKenna-Bruce as its heroine and unlikely sleuth, Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent.

The story unfolds as follows: it’s 1925 and what should have been an innocent joke at an English country house party appears to have gone murderously wrong. The next morning, one of Bundle’s friends is found dead and she sets out to untangle the mystery.

The series features Helena Bonham Carter as Lady Caterham, Bundle’s homebody mother, and Martin Freeman as Superintendent Battle, who’s trying to solve the case on his own terms. Other familiar faces among the party guests include Edward Bluemel, Nabhaan Rizwan and Corey Mylchreest.

As Bundle dives into the criminal underworld in seriously chic sleuthing outfits (I needthatcheck coat and matching bucket hat) while driving a Lagonda – iconic – there’s another scene-stealer demanding my full attention: her bob. Between the wardrobe and this haircut, my checklist is officially complete.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is Netflix’s latest take on the cosy crime genre

The 1920s-inspired haircut is the work of Sean Paul Nother at Hair Bros in London‘Mia’s hair went from waist-length to a clean, 1920s-inspired bob – a bold shift that needed the right hands,’ says Louise Colesthe series’ makeup and hair designer. ‘Sean created the shape first, and we then carefully maintained and refined it for the shoot.’

The reference point was Cecil Beaton’s photographs of his sisters in the 1920s – both wearing chic, side-parted bobs that felt timeless and confident. ‘Mia was an absolute trooper and embraced the chop with great spirit,’ she adds.

Coles didn’tover-style – the cut itself was designed to move, fall and flatter effortlessly. ‘We leaned into a modern, slightly ’90s interpretation to keep it feeling fresh and accessible,’ she says. ‘The cut sits just at lower-lip length, which is perfect for adding volume to finer hair and is side-parted for that unmistakable 1920s elegance.’

If, like me, Bundle’s bob has inspired you to go for the chop, Coles recommends going to a salon like Hair Bros, especially if it’s your first time going short. ‘There are endless ways to cut and style a bob, but the secret is listening to what your hair naturally wants to do.’

‘A bob should be tailored – some people shine with a cheek-length cut, others with something closer to the chin. It has to be bespoke,’ she adds. ‘Above all, a bob should be low-maintenance and grow out beautifully.’
