Google Pixel phone could soon have Samsung-style navigation buttons

Google is planning to add a new feature to Pixel phones that lets users change the order of the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. Right now, Pixel phones have the buttons arranged as Back, Home, and Recents. Samsung phones, however, use a different order – Recents, Home, Back.

This new option will allow Pixel users to pick which button order they prefer. They can keep the usual Pixel style or switch to the Samsung-style layout if they like. This gives people more choice and control over how their phone works.

The feature has been discovered in a test version of Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2. It shows up in the phone’s settings under System >> Navigation mode. If the 3-button navigation is turned on, there will be a small gear icon next to it. Tapping this icon opens a new page, Button navigation.

On this page, users can choose between two button orders: the current Pixel layout (Back, Home, Recents) or the Samsung layout (Recents, Home, Back). This setting is still being tested and is not available to everyone yet.

Google will decide if the feature will be included in the final Android 16 update, which is expected to arrive in December. If added, it will let people customize their navigation bar to better suit their habits.

Although this change is small, it can make a big difference in how comfortable people feel using their phones. It shows that Google is listening to users and adding options to improve the Pixel experience. Stay tuned for more information.
