Galatasaray’s shocking European record could allow Liverpool to reach milestone – Liverpool FC


Liverpool will be hoping they can extend Galatasaray’s shocking recent record in the Champions Leagueas they aim to score a milestone goal in Europe.

Arne Slot‘s side travel to Turkiye needing to bounce back from defeat at the weekend, and scoring first would put them well on their way to three points in the Champions League phase.

The next goal scored by Liverpool in Europe will be their 300th in away European matches. Meanwhile, if the Reds were to concede twice, the second goal would be the 400th let in.

Galatasaray’s poor European record

Galatasaray have lost only three of their last 19 home games in Europe, to Young Boys last season, Bayern Munich in 2023/24 and to Barcelona in the Europa League in 2021/22.

However, that defeat to Young Boys was also coupled with an away defeat. Young Boys then went on to lose all eight of their league phase matches.

Galatasaray have not won any of their last seven matches in European competition, with four draws and three defeats – the latest being a 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Their best-ever European Cup campaign saw them reach the semi-finals in 1989, only to lose 5-1 on aggregate to Steaua Bucharest.

Galatasaray have met English clubs 24 times, winning six, drawing eight and losing 10. At home, they have won four of 12 meetings, losing three times.

This season, they have won all three home games in the Super Lig by an aggregate score of 9-2, netting three goals in each match.

They have kept five clean sheets in their eight games in all competitions this season.

Liverpool’s European away days

This is Liverpool’s 50th season of European football and their 29th in the European Cup. The Reds have failed to score in six of the last 48 European outings and in only two of the last 21.

They have won six of their last seven away matches in Europe, only failing to beat PSV Eindhoven in a dead rubber in January 2025.

Liverpool have kept six clean sheets in the last 10 European outings, and they have scored in 10 of their away games in Europe since a 1-0 loss at Real Madrid in March 2023.

This season, 14 goals in nine Liverpool games have been scored from the 76th minute onwards – eight scored by the Reds.

Only Milos is coming has appeared in all nine Liverpool games this season, with seven starts and two appearances from the bench.

Mo is wrong is two goals short of recording 250 for the Reds in all competitions.
