Argentina officially nominated IAEA chief Grossi for the post of UN Secretary General
Argentina has officially nominated its citizen and diplomat Rafael Grossi, who currently serves as head of the IAEA, to the post of Secretary General of the United Nations (UN). The Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this.
“The Argentine Republic has the honor to present the candidacy of Ambassador Rafael Grossi for the post of UN Secretary General for the period 2027-2031,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The Argentine Foreign Ministry noted Grossi’s brilliant career in the diplomatic corps, which has lasted for more than 40 years. The ministry also stated that the main achievements of the current head of the IAEA were aimed at promoting international peace and security.
Grossi, now 64, has headed the IAEA since December 2019. His second term expires in December 2027. Earlier, Grossi announced his desire to nominate his candidacy for the post of UN Secretary General in 2027.
