EU countries want to stop issuing visas to Russians

Politico: The European Union is preparing to stop issuing Schengen multiple visas to Russian citizens
The countries of the European Union are preparing in most cases to stop issuing Schengen multiple visas to Russians. Politico writes about this with reference to unnamed EU officials.
The EU is expected to introduce new rules for issuing multiple visas for Russian citizens this week.
“The EU is preparing to further tighten visa rules for Russian citizens, having actually stopped issuing multiple entry permits to the Schengen zone in most cases,” the publication said.
If the rules are tightened, Russians will mostly receive single-entry visas. However, in some cases exceptions will still be made.
At the same time, Politico recalls that the issuance of Schengen visas remains a national competence. In this regard, the European Commission cannot introduce a complete ban on their extradition, but it can complicate this process.
It was previously reported that two Russian athletes missed the European Championship because of the visa problem.
