Disney animator unleashes furious tirade against the company over AI

A Disney animator has unleashed a furious tirade against the company and encouraged people to boycott its streaming service after CEO Bob Iger teased AI-generated content was in the works.

Iger, 74, revealed during the Earnings Results Webcast this week that Disney+ users will soon be able to create and view AI-generated content by other users.

AI is going to give us the ability to provide users of Disney+ with a much more engaged experience,’ Iger said, per the Hollywood Reporter.

‘(This includes) the ability for them to create user-generated content, the ability for them to create user-generated content and to consume user generated content – mostly short-form – from others.’

Some people were not amused by the idea – including one of Disney’s animators – and took to X to share their outrage.

Dana Terrace, who created the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House, brutally slammed the announcement.

She told fans to not only unsubscribe from Disney+ but to watch her own show illegally.

‘Unsubscribe from Disney+. Pirate Owl House. I don’t care. F**k gen AI,’ she wrote in a furious post.

To ‘pirate’ a film or show means to illegally copy, distribute or share it without the copyright holder’s permission.’

‘”If you pay us we’ll let you make your own content slop! That we will own!” You can draw and write and post your own s**t for free,’ she added in another post. ‘Bob Iger his ilk are f**king ghouls.’

Many others shared their outrage over Disney’s AI announcement on X.

‘People NEED to make noise about this, because this sort of thing is literally going to cripple a whole HOST of things all over the world and society if it is not dealt with. F**k AI,’ someone else scathed.

‘AI isn’t art. This is a blatant disrespect to the craft and legacy of those who actually create. I used to look up to Disney. This is incredibly disappointing,’ another agreed.

‘It’s heartbreaking to think of the wonderful artists who put so much obvious love and care into every frame of the old Disney cartoons. I’m glad they aren’t around to see this,’ wrote a different person.

‘AI is a vile mockery of art. A regurgitated vomit of other peoples hard work, passion and joy,’ read a fourth tweet.

‘A hollow amalgamation that is only defended by those who cannot bear the weight of a pencil. This is such a spit in the face to the legacy of their craft.’

‘NO ONE WANTS THIS. You know what we do want? Original art. Original ideas. Animators and creators, storytellers. WE DO NOT WANT AI,’ said a fifth.

It comes after rumors erupted that the company was planning a live-action remake of the animated classic Sleeping Beauty… but with some major changes.

Entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman wrote on his site that the movie, called Aurora, will be a ‘reimagining’ of the 1959 classic.

He claimed that it will be set in Mexico instead of Francewhere the original took place.

Sleeping Beauty followed princess Aurora, who had been cursed by an evil fairy named Maleficent, forcing her to fall into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love’s kiss.

Disney has not publicly commented on the rumors, and the company did not respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment.
