Chelsea have 3 more “unfortunate” injury concerns – 8 already out vs. Liverpool – Liverpool FC

Chelsea are set to assess three more injury concerns ahead of their clashes with Benfica and then Liverpool this week, with eight players already set to miss out.

Liverpool head to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening for their final outing before the October international break.

Arne Slot‘s squad is in strong shape ahead of their Champions League clash with Galatasaray on Tuesday, with only Giovanni LI and Jayden Danns out with long-term issues.

The same cannot be said for Chelseawho know they will be without at least eight players for the 5.30pm kickoff this weekend.

Levi Colwill (ACL), Cole Palmer (groin), Liam Delap (thigh), Tosin Adarabioyo (calf), Wesley Fofana (concussion), Trevoh Chalobah (suspension), Dario Essugo (thigh) and Mykhailo Mudryk (suspension) are all ruled out.

In His Pre-Benfica Press Conference on Monday, Head Coach Enzo Maresca Also Revealed New Concerns For Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos.

“They are all players, unfortunately for us, with some small problems,” he told reporters.

“So, we will see tomorrow if they are going to be available.

“For sure, in this moment, we have injuries, but I think we have enough in the squad to replace the injuries that we have.”

The expectation is that Caicedo, Pedro and Santos will all be passed fit but the lack of certainty means they can be considered doubts for the clash with Liverpool – particularly if they are risked against Benfica.

Maresca has rightly noted Chelsea‘s large squad and the ability to absorb an injury crisis which is no doubt prompted by their involvement in the Club World Cup.

But they are certainly short of options heading into their meeting with the Premier League champions, not least at centre-back with Jorrel Hato, 19, Benoit Badiashile, 24, and Acheampong, 19, their only specialist options.

Marc Guiu, 19, is on standby if Pedro is not fit while Romeo Lavia, Facundo Buonanotte and Alejandro Garnacho are alternatives in midfield and out wide.

Much will depend – for both Chelsea and Liverpool – on their output in Tuesday’s Champions League games, but as it stands Saturday’s hosts are undoubtedly worse off.
