Archaeologists have discovered in the south of Mexico the ancient cult complex on the top of the hill, where the mysterious stone carving and monumental platforms indicate centuries of ritual life associated with the sun, water and fertility.

A place known to local residents as a Pedra-Builder and for many centuries hidden in the impassable forests of the Kosta-Chika state of Herrero, experts recently investigated National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (Inah). Their finds indicate that this is a sanctuary used for almost 800 years and was an important spiritual center for the Amusgo and Mistecs: The rituals of calling the rain were carried out here, monitored the solar calendar and specified agricultural cycles.

During the examination, archaeologists recorded 11 pre -column monuments, with ceramics, petroglyphs and architectural residues. The most impressive Pedara-Baucher turned out to be: an extensive platform, two foundations and small buildings surround a rocky ledge covered with images. The thread dates from the early post -classical (c. 650–1150 AD) to the late post -classical (1150–1521) period, which indicates the centuries -old use of the peak.

Images on Pedar-Black are rich in symbols. Early include spirals, circles, which, according to researchers, indicate the movement of time, drops of water and even a schematic playground for the ball. Among the figures are a man in a fence of feathers with a round chest plate and a jaguar profile with a spot color of the skin.

One later image – the Sun with a human face – refers to the late post -classical period and strengthens the interpretation of the fact that rituals associated with the solar calendar, prayers for rain and rituals of fertility were held at the top.

The inspection revealed monumental architecture in other areas. In San Cristobal, scientists recorded granite steles to almost two meters high-strict, but impressive markers, accompanied by carved stones with spirals and concentric circles. A platform with the remains of walls and a carved stone ax was found in Guadeloud-Mano-de-Leon.
