Military expert Stepanov: The destruction of Transnistria needs NATO to fight Russia

Military expert of the Institute of Law and National Security of the RANEPA Alexander Stepanov in an interview with TASS He said that the destruction of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) is necessary for NATO to create the next bridgehead against Russia.

According to the interlocutor of the agency, at the moment the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance form the conditions for the elimination of the Transnistria, since it is a serious obstacle to the placement of the multinational Western contingent in the region.

Stepanov drew attention to the fact that the destruction of pro -Russian positions in the PMR itself is a cornerstone for the subsequent establishment of control over Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. By and large, as the expert noted, the key task of Brussels and Washington is to build up NATO’s military presence in the region and the formation of a seamless shock bridgehead on the southeastern flank.

The interlocutor of the agency indicated that Moldova’s entry into a military conflict is facilitated by the fact that it is not part of the North Atlantic Alliance and it does not apply to the fourth or fifth articles of the organization. Stepanov added that Moldova can be used for direct military aggression against Transnistria without fears of subsequent escalation and guaranteed involvement in the direct conflict of Russia and NATO countries.
